I am trying to plan a family vacation to Costa Rica. What is the best town/city to stay in? What weeks during June or July are the best to go? Any other advice? Do you know any websites that would be helpful? Thanks!

  1. Get the book Costa Rica by the Lonely planet people.  You will not get better advice than that.  go in June but be ready for a lot of rain in some areas.  guanacaste area is generally drier.  We rented a beach house for the family with a pool and upper deck on the beach at Playa Flamingo.  Very nice.  Don't expect the clear waters of the Caribbean with visibility about half as good.  You must make your location decisions based around what the family members like to do so that's why the book is essential.

I know you will have a great time cause Costa Rica is a beautiful country inhabited by equally beautiful people.  Learn to say "Pura Vida' and mean it.

  2. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. It is home to some of the most beautiful natural wonders, flora and fauna in the world. San Jose would be the ideal place to stay. It depends on what your interests that would help you decide the desired time of visiting Costa Rica. You can visit in June and July. Probably towards the end of June and start of July would make the ideal time to visit Costa Rica. There are several websites to find information related on Costa Rican tourism.

  3. I just did an episode of the show on Costa Rica with the author of "Explore Costa Rica". He suggested a number of different places to stay. The first thing you need to decide is what style of vacation you are looking for: report, eco lodge, work exchange, surfing, etc.

  4. I would say stay away from San Jose, go to the pacific coast (Guanacaste) where the most beautiful beaches are located or stay just like 1 or 2 days in San Jose for a quick visit and then move somewhere else. Kids in Costa Rica have their vacations first 2 weeks of July so the beaches are more crowded on those 2 weeks, after that they go back to school I would recomend coming before or after that time. Hope you enjoy ur trip!!!

  5. First of all, welcome to Costa Rica...

One of the places more visted for tourist is La Fortuna in San Carlos, in this little and beautiful town you'll find the greates volcano, the Arenal, you'll be able to see the lava flowing from the crater in a safe way from the national park of the same name.

Also, from the Arenal you can take a trasfer and get to Monteverde, aplace full of wildlife and beautiful reserves like Santa Elena reserve and Monteverde reserve, you can do birdwatching and canopy through the trees, is just amazing.

If what you want is beach, I recommend you to visit Guanacaste or Manuel Antonio, Guanacaste is at 5 hours from the capital san Jose, is one of the best eaches in our country, you find very nice services there and I'm pretty sure that you will like it.

Then is Manuel Antonio at 3 hours from the airport, this beach is famous for its national park, you can go to th beach, but in front to the beach you can find the forest, you can go to the trails and see the monkeys asking you for food, but be careful, they can be cheaters, is best if you do not feed them.

The beaches are great, the mountains are great, you can visit several places and I know for sure that you'll get satisfied.

Good luck, in www.costaricatogo.com you can find videos of different places in Costa Rica.

    Pura vida!

  6. You may want to visit Guanacaste.

Guanacaste is zone of heat. Near the most beautiful beaches.

But, you also have to come to San Jose, and stay around for a few days, visit the museums.

You can find lots of info at:

Is the official government web site for tourists.

    Welcome and enjoy!!!
