My husband and I will travel to the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic this summer.

Do you have any general travel tips for the area? Any "must-sees!"? Any safety tips? Thanks in advance!

  1. HI Kathy P/W,

Well from Punta Cana it is a bit difficult because this is a Hotel area and nothing more. If you wanna discover the country I suggest to take a hotel in Puerto Plata, much more to see and to discover. All my VIP guests come to this place, much better!!!

  2. near by punta cana you'll find the "higuey bassillic" very tradisional

  3. Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial) is full of history and lots of things to do and see. Day and night. since it is in the capital there are many sights to see in the entire area.

  4. There are only a few things to see around Punta Cana because its in a part of the island where it has not been developed as others. However these places will be nice to look at:

Basicila de Higuey – This is a very nice Architecture building that holds our Lady Mary which we call “Virgen de la Altagracia”. Google the name and you will see pictures of it.

La Romana- very nice town well know for “Altos de Chavon” which is a cultural spot where will find art schools, concerts arena, etc. This link will show you more or less what it is, this is about 1 hour away from Punta Cana
