I rescently started a job and the only time I can take leave is 8/8-8/15. I want to go to the islands but, have not decided where but I want to know if it is a good idea to still go despite Hurricane season and which island I should enjoy my vacation

  1. It's always a risk, but IMO a very small one!  As others have said, Aruba is a great idea (and destination).  I've been there several times over the years and have lost only one day to rain.  If I didn't go to Aruba I'd probably pick somewhere other than Mexico, since it seems a lot of the hurricanes turn towards the Yucatan peninsula.  I'd just go - no reason not to!

  2. Aruba is out of the hurricane belt. We used to go to Nassau every July and never had bad weather. Actually I like summer in the Islands.....the rates are cheaper, it stays light later, and you don't have to worry about flying anywhere in a snowstorm. Jamaica does have a VERY rainy season ( August) so you wouldn't want to go there. Anyway, have fun where ever you go.

  3. Aruba may be an option.  It is technically outside of the hurricane belt.  While, yes, they have had some issues with hurricanes, they are not even close to most of the other Caribbean islands.  I went there on my own a couple of years ago and had a great time.  The beaches and watersports are great!  There is good nightlife too.  Check out the Divi Divi, Occidental, Wyndham, Radisson, Hyatt.  For a bit more economical approach try the Holiday Inn.

  4. I really cant complain about any island in the Carribean.  I loved all of them!  I too was apprehensive about traveling during hurricane season but decided to go anyway.  Just make sure you get travel insurance in case one does head towards your destination!
