Travel in the caribbean?

I am planning a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands. I will be traveling alone and this is my first trip there. There are so many choices! Advice from someone who has traveled there (St. Thomas, St. Croix, etc.) would be nice. I want to shop, eat, relax on the beach...... So if you know where the best beaches and great places to stay are, please share. Thanks.

I'd Recommend St. Thomas i've been there several times.  You will find a lot of nice hotel, restaurants and night life all within minutes walking of main beach area.

We recently stayed at a very nice small resort on St Thomas.Secret Harbour Beach Resort. A very nice beach with wonderful snorkeling. They have a dive shop/gift shop, a full service restaurant, bar and you are only 1 mile from Red Hook restaurants, stores and ferry.

We stayed in the studio beachfront room and loved being so close to the beach. It had a small kitchen/frig/microwave. If you plan on staying for a week, It's a great way to save some $$ on breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. We were there in May and paid the summer rates.
