  1. sainsburys are meant to be really cheap - they are all about the same though

  2. Your question is in two parts as 'best' and 'cheapest' are not the same.

As a best compromise I would recommend Fortis - very good cover, low excesses and they pay their claims. You could try www.portwood.co.uk and get an online quote with them.

  3. Very envious - did that a few years ago and had a fabulous time.

There is a "free" way of getting travel insurance through Lloyds Bank if you have, I think £1,000 in your current account.  (You'll have to check the amount - it may have changed - ask them how much you need to have in to qualify for the Gold Card)

They will give you a "Gold Card" which includes free travel insurance up to the age of 80.

My husband did this when he was working for himself and travelling all over the World - it was a better "investment" than putting it somewhere else with a low return.

Nat West have a similar scheme, but you have to buy their Gold Card which doesn't make economic sense.

  4. Type it into Google, because there is huge variation in premiums.
