Question:

Travel insurance rip off?

looking at the small print on many policies reveals anyone suffering from simple medical conditions or taking any prescribed drugs are not covered.

Loads of people take prescription drugs for non serious conditions.

so my question...

1. do you not disclose such information and just book it?

OR do you phone up, be honest and pay for the additional cover?

2. can you recommend a good travel insurance company?

  1. you have to be honest

or if you make a claim it will be invalid

so your insurane will have been pointless

  2. Some credit cards have travel insurance. They may not cover everything but they do cover some. Check with your credit card company.

  3. just cannot believe the first answer what planet do you live on

a biiger rip off I havenever seen

  4. I suggest quotes from http://www.portwood.co.uk/ If the BIBA contract quotes then call the screening line - they don't charge extra if they will cover the conditions.

(And it's a pretty good policy as well)

(Internet based travel insurance almost always excludes any pre-existing medical conditions - that is because all they can offer you is a cheap price - so have to try and avoid paying claims.)

  5. When you book any travel insurance you must declare all medication you are on and any medical problems you have or may have had. When it comes to a claim insurance companys will refuse to pay if you have not told the absolute truth, remember that they will have access to all of your medical records.

  6. I suppose it depends what you are being treat for if its the likes of a high strength ant-acid then no i wouldnt bother but if you are treating a heart complaint then most definatley yes, bear in mind you are going to rely on these people to look after you and get you home if needs be so it pays to be honest and secondly go see moneysupermarket.com there you can pick your insurance from the cheapest to the downright extravagent ,i go nowhere else now after being ripped off by most compaies

  7. You must declare everything they ask you or anything you know. Failure to do so will invalidate your insurance. As for them charging more, it may not be the case, but it is better to pay a few more pounds than be stuck with a huge medical bill if things go wrong.

Travelling in Europe if you are from the UK, make sure you have your E111 or equivalent card. That will give you free emergency medical cover within Europe, but if you need further assistance it will be through your insurance.

Do not rely on credit card insurance. They won't entertain any medical conditions. Check before hand with your bank.

  8. Go through an insurance broker. It's free, and they'll be cheaper than the prices offered on the internet comparison sites.
