Question:

Travel notes for Trier?

I'll be visiting a friend stationed in Baumholder next week, but since there's a huge festival going on I wasn't able to get a hotel near the army base. Instead, I'll be staying in Trier. It's just for one night, but wondering if there's anything worth doing/seeing in that town? (FYI - it'll be me, my hubby, and 8 month-old baby)

  1. Look at the web www.trier.de

  2. Oh you're lucky Trier is very worth going to!!

It is the oldest city of Germany. Founded by the Romans 2000 years ago. There are all kinds of roman buildings still there. The most famous one is probably the Porta Nigra it used to be A gate/ checkpoint into town, part of the wall that protected the city. That building is right at the beginning of the main shopping Street, where all the stores are also in historical buildings. (Even the Mc Donalds :-)) When you are by the Porta Nigra you can board a trolley where they take you to the important sites and explain everything in English too. They also take you by the house were Karl Marks was born. You probably won't have enough time but taking the train from Trier to Cologne is also a great scenic ride.

  3. There are a lot of Roman ruins in the area took look at.
