work 12 hr shifts pd 8 reg pay, time and one half after 8. After 40 hrs are all the hours paid at overtime and/or when does it become dbl time. Travel nurses often work 6-7 shifts in a work week when/how should they be p0aid wih so many hrs worked. I've been told on the 6th shift all hours are dbl time. Also a "tax free" stipend is given per shift for the first 3 shifts for housing. What justifies this and how much per week is allowed

  1. Any pay issues are determined by the work contract between you and the employer.  There could be hundreds of different one in any given state.  There would be no way for anyone not familiar with your contract to determine what the working conditions are.

  2. There is never any federally mandated double time.

An employer who requires or permits an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) must receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest, unless overtime hours are worked on such days.

Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.
