Travel on foot.?

I live in South Australia, and I'm thinking about traveling and exploring Australia on foot, what kind of gear would I need? I've never been camping before, but it is something I have always wanted to do. Anything else I should know would be real good to know.

If you've never been camping before I don't recommend exploring Australia on foot. The pack you'll need to carry is extremely heavy, and since much of Australia is desert, you'll want to carry extra water (which is again, very heavy.). I think the best thing you could do for yourself is go on a few backpacking trips, see if you like it and then work up from there.

Good boots and thick socks. If you want to get some idea of what you need for yourself, try some of the walks on the Heysen Trail, which runs through the Mt Lofty ranges and up into the Flinders.
