Ok so i was looking at packages online and none of it seems to add up...

I look at Toronto(Canada) to England packages and they are the same price as travelling within Canada.

Now the sites I looked on for Toronto to Halifax *all within canada* included Hotel and Air fare only- and they were averaging around $1200 canadian.. now I thought that was extremly high so I looked up airfare- $108 a person so together it is 217.70 then hotel costs is 239 a night so 478.. for two nights.. total of 695.70 with tax that brings it to $799.96

Ok so both packages are for same amount of time... WHY is there such a difference in price?

  1. First of all, I just checked Toronto-Halifax airfares, and they range from $144.00 - $520.00 ONE-WAY, cheapest fare. When you add the taxes, the total comes up to $227.00 per person one-way. Thus, a round trip ticket would be $457.00. The difference in prices reflects the differences in departure times, with the $227  flight leaving at some unearthly hour. The reason that the package to England is the same price as the package to Halifax is that there is more of a demand to go to England than there is to Halifax. The planes to England also hold more passengers and are usually filled to capacity. Canadians can fly to Vancouver cheaper than Halifax, and the price to fly to CHINA is cheaper than to fly to Labrador!

The business people in Halifax have lobbied very heavily for more frequent flights to Toronto and Montreal, and the cost of sending more planes with fewer passengers is passed down to the traveller. Hope this helps. (I also checked WestJet, and their lowest price was also $144 before taxes, one way)
