Travel requirements (ID etc) for a 16 year old flying within the United States?

My 16 year old brother will be flying alone (I am his legal guardian) to visit our sister in Florida. He does not have his drivers license. What should he bring with him as far as identity is concerned for documentation. He is flying through Northwest Airlines.

take him to the DMV and get him a Sate ID.  They are free i think from the state  it is an official ID for people not allowed to drive.

Since your brother is a minor he is not required to show ID, however a state issued ID card would be a good idea.  They are usually issued at the DOL/DMV and are NOT free.  In WA they're almost as much as a driver's license.  You should check with your state's DOL/DMV to see what documentation they need to prove identity.

Because your brother is 16 you may decide to kill two birds with one stone and have him get his learner's permit instead of a ID card.  Most states require you to pass the written test and provide the necessary documents to establish identity to get the permit.
