The situation.I am not from the EU.Arriving in Paris 1st week of Aug.Need hotel.4-5 nights. In those 5-6 days.will be looking for a flat and getting for various documents.I am looking for a furnished flat in Paris,1yr lease, that is near the RER A or Metro Line 1 as I will be travelling to Cergy everyday;stay in Cergy 8:30AM to about 5PM everyday. It is essential to find a place that will not eat up my time(travel time)as I will have to bury myself in papers in the evenings.I am looking for a hotel and flat in the 7th,8th,16th,17th as I hear they closer to Cergy--although I AM on a budget.I would love to stay in the Marais but fear that it will take too long to get to Cergy from there everyday.I want to stay in a neighborhood thats is not dead.Pref near the Metro.Haven't been to Paris in several years. Fluent English-speaking foreigner. Almost-zero French(daily thing to do in Cergy is in English).Read my other questions, please, for more Thank you for all your help, people!Been great so far

  1. Rillifane is right. However, it couldn't hurt to check FUSAC (France USA Contacts) and, to a lesser degree, the Paris Voice:

    http://www.fusac.fr

    http://www.parisvoice.com

Once you're physically in Paris, I would also suggest checking out the bulletin board at the American Cathedral:

  2. I think you are not visualizing the geography accurately.

Cergy is sufficiently far away from Paris that doesn't make all that much difference where in Paris itself you stay.

The time travel distance on the. RER  from Cergy to the outskirts of Paris of about 30 minutes while the trip across Paris itself takes only about 11 minutes. So anyplace in Paris close to an RER A station is about the same as another.

Go the RATP site and look at the route map of the RER A to see the areas that are therefore appropriate.

I fear that finding a furnished apartment is going to be difficult if you have only 5-6 days to do so especially as you do not speak French.

The French real estate market is not anywhere as organized as the American and the formalities of renting a place are more complex and difficult. You really need the assistance of a real estate professional.
