I know it is still early and is still illegal for American's to travel to Cuba. But with Bush on his way out of office and Castro resigning this could open up dialogue between Cuba and US to open up trade and travel. Personally, I would love to see Varadero Beach and Isla de la Juventud.

  1. Cuba is like any other caribbean country. Sun, salt and poverty.  Go there if you want to meet really "friendly" people that actually just want you to open your wallet.

  2. The embargo, is not a Bush policy, him leaving office will change nothing.  It is too early to talk of travel to Cuba.

    Edit-

I personally would love to go to Cuba.  It's a shame that there is such a beautiful country only 90 miles from our own that we are not allowed to visit.  I do not have an interest visiting though as long as the people are being oppressed.  If they would hold fair elections that would be great.

  3. Hopefully you and thousands more Americans may soon be able to join the thousands of Canadians, Brits, and other Europeans who have  discovered and are enamored by Cuba and the Cuban people who treat us all so well when we visit their remarkable country.  Take a look at the links below they will show you some of what you have been missing.

  4. There is a possibility that things will lighten. No one can say for sure, but hopefully you will get to see Cuba...there is so much more than Veradero and Isla de la Juventud. There is so much history and culture, variety of people and beauty.

El fagguito, no they don't just want you to open your wallet. I'm not American, but just try doing business with Americans, Canadians, or any other country and you will also find out just how much they want you to 'open your wallet' and totally rip you off.

Joel R, why fee so negatively about visiting Cuba...just because of the situation in the country isn't fair to say you don't want to visit the people there. You have no idea how much you're missing out. No one has control over where they're born, so why not widen your horizons and visit people of other cultures with an open mind; not 'punishing' the people because of where they happen to be.

  5. Honestly, when I heard the news of Castro,  I thought the same thing as you , when can we travel there ?    LOL .  I had considered in early Feb, after a carribean vacation,  wondered if there was anyway to get another passport / partial citizenship through another country for the purposes of taking a vacation to Cuba.

i know in the 1920's Americans were allowed to travel there. Havana was like the Las Vegas of the carribean.

In the meantime,  I would like to respectfully suggest that you visit Miami.   It has a lot of good cuban people, food, culture and Florida has fairly good beaches.  Not carribean waters, I'm sure , but , might satisfy  you for the present time. If you go to Florida , eat in restaurants that are really cuban , not hotel resutarants / mcdonalds chains.   Experience a little bit of something else.

  6. I'll go to Cuba in 2 weeks :-D

I don't care about whether Fidel is there or not, all that counts is that a part of my family and many friends are still there!

Things won't change that fast. Fidel would not have resigned if he had to fear fast changes.

  7. I think you do not get the idea that at the moment there is STILL the other CASTRO in power , same dog , different collar...why does it make anyone think there will be a change in Cuba? And another thing, the older Castro has not died so HE is still in Command as long as he breaths...

About the traveling to Cuba, a lot of americans do travel there now anyways ...

  8. Bush tighten the embargo and reduced the categories of US residents allowed to visit legally.

With a new president, and a change of the head of the House Foreign Relations Committee, there is a chance of some relaxation of the rules.
