I am married, age 48, and am fascinated with the country and would love to visit. I would like to visit (at least) Bombay and The Taj Mahal. Husband is not interested. Any ideas for a tour for a person like me?

  2. incredibleindia.com is good source of information about india. You should have atleast 1 1/2 - 2 months to visit various places. There are beautiful places both in the north and the south. In the south, the southern tip of India, Kanyakumari (the kape comerin sunset and sunrise beautiful),Madurai Meenakshi Temple (quite big), Nayakar mahal, Kodaikanal, Ooty (this is a hill station;go by train to get a good view), Mudhumalai (elephants conservation), Mysore (palace, temple, big bull statue called Nandhi), Bangalore, Tanjore & Trichy famous for big temples, Chennai for beach, 400years & more old temples, Mahabalipuram big single Rock carvings, statues, Nanganallur 32 feet Aanjaneyar temple, etc. People are very friendly.

  3. try, Saga, my sister went with this company, she's 49, was 50 when she was there. they cater for the more adult people. lots of singles. She travelled with 2 couples and 6 singles, was met at the airport and escorted with everyone else, on her tour of Nepal or there abouts.. my sister has done taj, was very disappointed in it. I my self have done bombay a few times, in my stop overs to goa,, its not nice. not a good first impression of a beautiful country like India, and i have travelled from kanarkata to chania/madras. My sister said this was the best sightseeing tour see has ever been on, and this is from someone who has travelled india. mumbai is a place you change flights. not a place to visit, the city is huge, 10 times the size of london, and that might be an underestimation.. anyway try saga.. very good, i am trying to go with them this year myself.. have a good time whatever you do

  6. you are welcome. visit some places in south and some places in north.

you will be delighted. make contacts with some known friends in india. they are good in hospitality.

  7. I would recommend visiting Taj Mahal in moonight, Its fantastic - check out details at http://asi.nic.in/asi_monu_whs_agratajma...

Also, check out http://www.mustseeindia.com/theme-travel for places in india matching your interests.

  8. hmmmm... interesting!

even if he's not interested, Is your husband coming along or you are travelling alone?

If travelling alone please make sure you make all the required bookings beforehand, never trust any strangers when you are travelling around in India and also do not eat at roadside places.

When you book a hotel ask for their own tour bus/ car with driver and let them know your tour schedule.

As for the places to see, i would suggest Goa - very tourist friendly, Kerala - natural beauty, Mumbai -to get a taste of the real indian lifestyle :)

  9. India is fascinating indeed.

The country is huge and there is lot of geographic and cultural diversity.

All depends what you are interested in-desert, tropics, backwaters, mountains, adventure, culture.

Bombay and Taj are two different places. Taj is located in north of the country. Bombay in the west. You will need to plan your trip well.

I suggest you check out the travel articles related to India.

  10. There are lots of places to visit in India, not only Bombay or TajMahal. U shud definitely see different heritage places like kHajuraho, Ajanta Ellora, konark etc.

See the below link for more details...

P.S,. It'd be really nice if you have an Indian with you during the whole tour otherwise you might face some language problem and people might cheat you because of this.

  11. take a reliable INDIAN fellow traveller preferably a girl

contact Indian embassy in ur country for that

Its a vast vast country...study a bit abt the regions  beforehand

north is where i live ..its home to the amazing Himalayas .the Taj Mahal and Delhi

    study and decide

need to know more mail me at atul292@gmail.com

remember its an enchanting place..a great exp for ne foreigner..just take simple precautions like being distant and firm with strangers

enjoy ur visit ..u will fall in love with us !

  12. There are lots of places that you will find interesting while in India. You can do your research with Google.com. It helps a lot.

The official Indian tourism website is www.incredibleindia.org. You will find good information in there.

One thing I would suggest every foreigner before visiting India, is to come prepared, with all your medicines. The Air in India is very polluted. The moment you land in India, you will have cough and cold. There is also too much of dust in the air, and if you are allergic to dust, be prepared for a miserable time with getting sick every now and then.  Always take precaution to drink bottled water only.

  13. The Golden temple in Amristar, the Hindu temples in the Himalayas and the Pink city of Jaipur Rajistan are among many places that u can visit......Taj Mahal is actually nowhere near as glorious as it looks in pictures....believe me I visited it and it looks no different from a mosque...Also Mumbai (bombay) is a very very unclean and polluted city...It is not a place that u will want to go if u r a tourist.......There are far better places to visit in India rather than the taj mahal and Mumbai.....I suggest that u visit Goa instead of Mumbai......

  14. India a beautiful country. You can see lots of attractions and good people over there.

See the below web site which describes the major tourist attractions in India

  15. In additition to all the ideas given by many good people, since you are likely to travel alone, visit for some tips at

  16. do not travel in heat and dust

  17. India is a very vast country & varied in tourist attractions. Choose your theme (wild life, religious, meditational, history etc..) & decide your time frame. I shall plan a tour for you.

  18. My most trustworthy, reasonably priced, and above all a secured travel agent after several trips to India is Smile India Tour.

  19. depending on the # of days u are here, you could land in mumbai (bombay) and take a train to agra to see taj. you can also go to jaipur which is 200 kms and delhi again 200 kms (from both agra and jaipur).  you could also see the khajuraho ruins in madhya pradesh. or roam rajasthan - udaipur, jodhpur etc
