Hi! I'm planning to go Italy for holidays during December. I only have about 2 weeks to spend so currently, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Venice and Milan are on my list of city-hopping. Are these cities are good enough to get a good feel for Italy?

Also, i know it's going to be winter in December. Are most attractions and shops gonna be closed? Is it going to be too cold to do anything at all?

Thanks people!

  1. Hi there!

I'd always put Rome, Venice, and Florence on top of my list for Italy. Pisa is worth visiting. Milan is ok, but quite different from the rest: more of a business city: the center is beautiful with Piazza Duomo (the famous square where you find the cathedral and gallery) and the Castle near by, it's fashion shops in the same area, but that's it. You will be pleasantly surprised in visiting Verona (home of Romeo and Juliet) and Mantova. Or Assisi (village of St. Francis).... however, Italy has infinite sites...

It will be cool - not too cold - but you'll probably get rain. Attractions will be open, don't worry.

    Have a great trip! Arrivederci!

  2. Those are Perfect places to go when visiting Italy!!! You'll be able to get a feel for just about everything!

Thought it WILL be a lot colder, there will still be many attractions that you will be able to visit. Maybe not as outdoorsy as you may like, but still touristy!

  3. ITALIA es bellisima !!! es molto bella !!

can I go with you ? XDXDXD

  4. TOO COLD!  Do not travel in winter.  I just did this past Winter with my sister and will forever be sorry.  We did not bring enough warm clothes and the weather was so cold (hail storm) that we needed to purchase down coats, scarves, gloves, and sweaters.  Italy is an outdoor town.  You need to walk to shops, walk to restaurants, walk to the sites.  And, freezing cold weather WILL put a big time damper on things.  It's not fun, trust me.  Your photos will be of grey clouds and rain.  Plus, the dollar is very poor right now so you will end up paying big bucks for everything.  You would be better off, putting off this vacation til the summer when you can walk in the beautiful sunshine and get beautiful photos with blue skies.  Maybe the U.S. dollar will also be better at that time.

  5. The Christmas holidays in a Catholic country are always full of fanfare.... and you'll find your share in all of the cities you mentioned. Bring a coat, scarf & hat, camera and an appetite! You'll find all the shop open and many stalls set up for the holiday selling Christmas goods - from food to whatever.

The cities you've listed will give you an idea of Italy and the Italians. For an in depth view you may want to, next time around stay 2 weeks in just one city, Rome, Milan or Venice and then take day trips for that city.

  6. I think you just covered the major cities with the sights! Major cities may have the tourist areas open but small towns will not be open christmas eve or day..

    Have a nice time!
