Travel to Shanghai: I have a visa related question

I plan to make a stop-over for 2 days in Shanghai in Dec'08 on my way to India.

I have a US passport.

Do I need a visa or I can obtain a transit visa when I land at the Airport.

Transit visa's do exist, but due to paranoia over the Olympics I would imagine they are not available now.  Get yourself a regular tourist visa to be safe. Also best to ask your travel agent about this.

yes, you need a visa to visit China. Get one in advance just to be safe.
