  1. What about this idea?Madrid(and Toledo-it's about 30-40 km.), Cordoba, Sevilla, Malaga, Granada, Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona and Marseille, The French Coast(Cannes, Nice, Monte Carlo), Lyon, Orleans(the castles of the Loire valley) and the last, but not the least Paris. You need 2-3 weeks for this trip and it's better to do it by car to see the more possible.Bon Voyage!

  2. If you have the time, try driving - you would see more than "regular" tourists spots, out the way spot retauarants are often cheaper as well as better, if not - do the  train, totally different than an american train ride. Have a blast, be safe

GAV,  reply to your email didnt go thru we drove from paris down to barcelona once we hit spain, we drove along the coast, hitting the smaller cities and towns, cant remember names but a place called matero, matro, think few hrs drive from barcelona - sry cant help more

  3. The most famous places are Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, Seville Cordoba, Granada. Driving around is a great idea, I have done that three times.  However, Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe it will be sweltering at the time you are going.

If you are based in Madrid, the closest places are Toledo and  El Escorial. Toledo has lots of Tourist but theres a good reason for that, stunning location, real medieval feel, rich in history and art.

A  lesser known place fairly close to Madrid is Cuenca, both the city and area, which has stunning locations and the "hanging houses". I drove around this area there are a couple of Roman settlements (valeria, segobriga) and Spanish castles, intersting scenery. I especially like El Alarcon -- theres are parador there were you could stay or eat lunch if you are on a day trip. Only way to get there is car.

  4. I agree with everybody, but i would add: start with France and finish with Spain...  I've been in France twice and i lived in Madrid for four months (and traveling around) and i like Spain the most... I would keep it for the desert ;)

But still it is at your discretion!
