  1. I agree with Jim. Should you not be using our hard earned tax dollars to better your situation, rather than taking trips? If people on EI cannot, something they have paid into, then I am sure people on welfare most definitely cannot either. Spend the money on your kids instead.

  2. Sure, why not?  Even people on EI can travel there for brief periods, like a weekend.

  3. You are receiving what amounts to welfare, and you can afford to travel to the USA?

That makes me  very unhappy, seeing as I'm helping to support you, by working full time and paying high personal income taxes.

    Jim b. Toronto.

  4. I know people on Welfare and they can barely afford to go across town let alone out of town. Of course, if you are a passenger just along for the ride with friends or family, then your income should not be a factor. If you are abusing the system, where do you live? I know someone who would dearly love to set you straight in person.

When a person applies for OW, they sign an agreement. If the travel does not interfere with those obligations and if the cost is not a problem -  your uncle is picking you up for a family get together and bringing you back for example, I can not find anything in the act to stop you. Perhaps you should discuss this with your worker if possible. Without specifics (and a public forum such as YA is probably not the best place for specifics) it is a difficult question to answer. So much depends on the persons circumstances.

It never hurts to have some knowledge of the sections of the act pertaining to what you need so I am including the URL to the Act below.
