Question:

Travel trailer weight - dry weight vs. GVWR?

I'm trying to decide if my truck will be able to pull a specific travel trailer. I know what my tow capacity is, but on the manufacturer's website I don't know if I should be looking at the dry weight or the GVWR weight. The numbers are very different. Can someone explain these numbers?

The travel trailer I'm looking at is 21 feet long. The dry weight is 3,300 lbs. and the GVWR weight is 5,960 lbs. They also list axle weight as 2,950 lbs, hitch weight 360 lbs., and cargo capacity 2,650 lbs.

I'm so confused! If my truck is supposed to able to pull 5,000 lbs, will I be able to pull this trailer?

  1. what kind of truck do you have? You should be able to pull that with no problem. I know somebody who has a 5th wheel that they take everywhere in the US. and it's usually over 15,000 lbs (with all his tools and belongings), and he pulls that with minor problems.
