We have a five year old German shepard mix. He is a darling, but terrified of man.(male persons, the darker the voice, the greater the fright). We are planing to go back to Germany. And it would break my heart, if I could not take him with us. Does anybody has experiance since the terror atacks with teraveling with dogs by plane? What would I need, exept a crate and nurishment? What is approximatly charged?

  1. Airline Rules: Lufthansa

    In Cabin

Transport of pets while traveling with Lufthansa is possible with prior reservation and for a nominal fee. A limited number of animals are permitted on each flight. Only cats and dogs are permitted to travel in the passenger cabin. The maximum weight for the animal including the carrier is 18lbs/8kgs and may be a maximum of 55X40X20cm or 22x16x8in.

    In Cargo

All other animals are required to be transported in the climate-controlled hold of the plane, even if you are on the same flight as your pet. Please contact your local reservations department to verify that your pet is permitted, to make arrangements for the transport of your pet as well as the expense.

It is not required that you travel with your pets. You may also ship the animals unaccompanied in the aircraft hold for a fee. For more detailed information regarding this option, please contact Lufthansa Cargo directly.

  2. well if you love your dog a lot i would fly in the winter time and rap him in a thik blanket because if you fly in the summer the dog gets very hot and might pass out or get dehighdrated

  3. I don't know the charge, you would have to contact the airline.  You will need proper crating for it, and there is no change in animal's on planes since 9/11.  Remember that when you get to Germany your dog will have to be in quarentine (I'm not sure how long you'll have to look into it) but expect it to be for about a month.  This is to make sure he is not carrying any diseases that will spread.

    Good luck.
