Travel within Cyprus

I'm going to Larnaca for 2 weeks in October with my wife. I would like to spend a couple days touring the island, but not sure which days. What is the best way to get around? Can I reserve a car when I get there? How much should I expect to pay for automatic transmission? Is a scooter a better option?

  1. Definitely hire a car - it'll be safer, more comfortable on the mountain roads, and with the current summer temperatures, much cooler so long as it has air con! From Larnaca, you can explore most of Cyprus with ease, from the wonderful painted churches in the Troodos Mountains to the ancient ruins at Amathus, or the mosaics at Paphos. There are some nice article on Cyprus holidays at the blog cyprusvista.com.

You'll probably get a better deal if you book a car online before you go to Cyprus; see the link below to cyprus-car.com.

Of course, you can also drive over the border into North Cyprus, which is like driving back in time! The historic city of Famagusta is within easy reach, with its amazing fortified walls and the famous Othello Tower. The pretty coastal town of Kyrenia is well worth the drive, and you could always stay a night at a hotel so you can enjoy dinner by the town's Venetian harbour - lovely!

  2. It's easy to go around Cyprus by car, so l suggest to rent a car. It will cost aprox. 30-40 EUR per day. Traveling around Cyprus is fun, you find parking everywhere. I suggest you buy a tourist guide which says all sort of information about sites ( opening hrs etc) I suggest you visit, Kourion ( Limassol) , The castle in Paphos and the Mosaics, Aphrodite Baths,Amathus area in Limassol, The tomps of the Kings in Paphos, Coral Bay in Paphos etc. Also it would be nice if you could visit some mountain villages such as Omodos, Lefkara ( great handicrafts) , Platres , Kakopetria.

  3. A scooter will be a bit tedious to ride for many hours, I suggest the luxury of a car. Stevens car rental are a good company - you can find them here.
