  1. Travers Stakes also known as the Mid-Summer Derby is run at historic Saratoga Racecourse in the foothills of the Adirondacks. "Saratoga, the summer place to be"

  2. There is a real horse race called the Travers Stakes (as mentioned above).  The large, international simulated horse racing game at http://www.simulatedsports.com runs races based on real life races with slighly different names.  For example, their Kentucky Derby is called the Bluegrass Derby, the Breeder's Cup is the Breeder's Bowl, etc.  In August they will run a 1 1/4 mile race for 3yos in New York called the Travelers Stakes.

  3. It's called the Travers Stakes. The Travers Stakes is held at Saratoga. This year it will be August 25. Rags to Riches is running in the July 21 Coaching Club American Oaks, so she might be a possibility in the Travers. Curlin will probably be making his start on August 5 for the Haskell Invitational. Street Sense is running in the Jim Dandy Stakes on July 29 so he might be a possiblity too. Here's some websites:

    Hope I helped you!

  4. As go4gin mentioned, it is the Travers Stakes which will be run at Saratoga on August 25. Rags To Riches is scheduled to run in the Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont Park on July 21st. Curlin may run in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on August 5th. There is the chance that both of them will be in the Travers.

  5. It's the Travers stakes, named after William Travers, the founder of Saratoga racetrack and first president of the Saratoga Racing Association.  Along with the Dwyer brothers (for whom the Dwyer Stakes is named), Leonard Jerome (for whom the Jerome Handicap is named) and William Carter (for whome the Carter Handicap is named), and August Belmont (for whom the Belmont Stakes and Belmont Park are named), Travers was one of the early "titans" of the American racing scene in the early, formative days.

It's a fascinating history, and if you want to know more, I highly recommend The History of Thoroughbred Racing in America by William Robertson.  I think it's out of print right now, but copies can be had at Amazon. com and on eBay.

One of the more fascinating things, at least to me, is that Leonard Jerome's daughter ended up becoming the mother of Sir Winston Churchill.

  6. It is the TRAVERS Stakes, not Travelers.

  7. It's  The Travers, keep an eye on this site:http://www.nyra.com/index_saratoga.html
