  1. You need to go to Mexico to get your passport. You should have your Mexican Passport and resident card to show immigration when you come back into the California. Call a Mexican Consulado in California to see if you can get a passport in the California office or one in Mexico.

  2. If you travel to Mexico by LAND you do NOt yet need a passport...and NO, NO, NO, passports will NOT be needed Jan 31 to travel to Mexico by land...there is NO date set for that yet.  See website below and read top half of the page for the current info...this was updated 4 days ago.  Now...EVERYONE  who flies between the U.s. and Mexico must have a passport...Americans, Mexicans and everyone else in the world.  As a permanent resident of the U.S. , you cannot get a U.S. passport. You are responsible to maintain a current Mexican passport if you are a Mexican citizen.  If you are a citizen of a different country, you must have a passport from that country.  Sometime in the future you WILL need a passport for land travel between the US. and Mexico, so you will need to use your passport from your home country at that time.

  3. No, you just need a drivers licence with photo I.D.

  4. EDIT:  I am putting this in here just in case you are not a U.S. citizen and a resident alien.  While it's true you will need your passport from the country from which you were born, it's still possible to become a naturalized U.S. citizen.  Click on the following link to find out if you can become a naturalized U.S. citizen.  http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/m...

EDIT:  You are correct in your thinking that you need to be a U.S. citizen in order to apply for a U.S. passport.  So, in short, you're good to go right now (and it is all you need) if you have your passport.

I'm making an assumption that your LACERS card is the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System--http://www.lacers.org/RetiredMembers/_Fo...

Since you have a passport now, then that will be all you need.  The rest of the information is so that you can pass it on to other people you know that might not be aware of the passport situation and when one will be required.

It hasn't been determined at what date the passport issue will fully be resolved, so I guess that Congress has possibly extended the deadline (as indicated by the link where I said Congress was pushing to have the passport moved up to at least June of 2009).  If you are a resident of the U.S., then all you need (right now) is your driver's license.

Once January 31st comes, you will need your driver's license and your U.S. birth certificate.

If you fly, then you need a passport now.  If you are talking about NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI cards, then (if these are available already) that will be all you need.

There is a possibility that the passport deadline will be extended.  Contact your senator to see if there has been any change.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/200712...

Here is some added information (just in case you decide you want to drive to Mexico).  The above information will still apply.  Read the answer I gave to a previous question in regards to traveling to Mexico by car.  http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

  5. If you are an US resident you need a passport to enter México, otherwise if you are a Mexican resident you do not need a passport to enter México!!
