I'm an American 26 f, and I'm going to Amsterdam in a few days to stay a week. I can only speak English and I don't know anyone there. I will be meeting someone I know very well when I arrive but he's from England and has never visited Amsterdam either. Plus I will arrive 6 hours before he does.. I'm scared that for some reason he might not be able to make the trip and I will be completely alone. Am I going to be alright by myself? Someone please ease my mind. What's it like to travel all alone in a different country?

  1. First of all, most people in Amsterdam speak English so you shouldn't have to much of a problem communicating. Secondly, although the Amsterdam Airport is very busy it is very modern and clean. It will have all the information and ammenities, eateries, shops that you need. A lot of young people travel internationally by themselves, just take the necessary safety precautions protect your passport and your money and you'll be fine.

  2. You'll be fine. I promise.

  3. English is spoken in most countries so I wouldn't worry about a language problem.  Get online and do some research about things to see and places to go; find out about transportation possibilities.  Get maps when you arrive.  This way you're covered whether your friend shows up or not.  Have fun!  What a wonderful opportunity!
