  1. It is difficult to get prescriptions out there so try to get what you need ahead of time, and maybe one extra just in case. Your insurance probably won't cover up-front, so make sure you are prepared to pay full European price for the medication and you can submit a claim when you get home, call your insurance to check. They may not have the same medicine out there that you do at home, so may not be able to get it. Also, a word to the wise, if it is a similar medication but it is packaged weird or looks different, make sure you read the instructions carefully, they will probably not be in English, maybe you can ask for English instructions or have someone translate for you. Trust me, that happened to me, and I took the medication incorrectly and it did not go well.

  2. First, take all prescriptions in your carry on always.  Make sure they are seperated from the other things in the bag - some times security wants to xray them.  I have a zip bag for mine, but a ziploc would work just fine.  Take enough for the whole trip.

You need to have your pharmacy info and the actual name of the medicine (not the generic, the original name).  Also, just so you know, sometimes medicines in the US aren't available or have a different name there.  You also may have a problem transfering prescriptions to another country.  Last, when medicines are made outside the US sometimes it's hard to know if you are getting the right amount of medicine in each pill - the requirements for each country are different and when we were in Russia I got some over the counter stuff that was not the dose it said on the bottle.  Good luck.  Have a great trip.
