I just got contacts 2 days ago and I'm gonna be traveling in about 2 weeks, I'll be traveling for almost 30 hours or more, 4 hours on the first flight then 4 hours in the airport then about 10 hours on the second flight !! my question is can I wear my contacts all the way with out my eyes getting tired?? And of course I'm gonna fall asleep on the plane but the docter told me not to sleep with them on, so what should I do?? I really wanna be wearing them when I get to where I'm going!! My mom said to take my glasses with me and take the contacts off when I get on the second plane then put them back on befor we land, or can I wear them the whole way?? I'm still new to all this contact stuff!! :)

  1. if you have glasses also it would be best to wear them on the plane, i went on a trip a while ago and i'm a strict contact wearer and i took them out when we stopped for gas a few times then putting them back in, you can sleep short periods with them in but your eyes will dry a little so keep a good rewetting eye drop with you because you will need them. you will want to keep them out for a while because you will need to clean them and also to give your eyes air. if you take them out when you are at the air port please clean your hands with anti bacterial sanitizer you never know what is lurking around an airport, ( i got pink eye on my trip the last day because i forgot once to wash my hands before i took them out) good luck have fun on the trip also

  2. Don't wear your contacts on the plane! The air in planes very dry, it dries out your contacts causing your lenses to stick to your eyes, it's not healthy and it's not comfortable. Bring your contacts in your carry on or in your pocket. Wear your glasses on the plane, when you land, before your unboard, put on your contacts, or put them on ten minutes before you land. I'm sorry, I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but I'd rather see you happily wear your contacts the whole time you are there rather that just the plane ride!

  3. since you are new to contacts you should only be wearing our contacts for about 4 hours at a time.  As far as you eyes are concerned you have a forign object in there.  You will get allergy bumps on the inside of your eyelids if you where your contacts are rubbing on them and they are not used to it.  I would call your eye doc and tell them that you are going on a trip and ask them if you could try some dailies trials while on your trip.  They are less likely to give you trouble becuase you just whear  them for eight to twelve hours.  Plus you don't have o worry about keeping them clean.  A warning though you can't wear them more then a day... they literally will start desalving onto your eye if you don't use them properly.  Take you glasses, just in case and some lubricating drops for sure, just don't use the kinds that get the red out.  they actually can make it worse.

  4. I travel with mine all the time.  As a matter of fact, we flew from Japan to the US and back and I wore mine the whole time.  If your eyes do get tired you can take them out for awhile and put them back in before or when you get there.

You're not supposed to sleep with them on, but that typically means when you're going to bed or going to be sleeping for a long period of time.  If you do nap with them on, your eyes may be a little irritated or sandy feeling when you wake up.  Using a re-wetting eye drop will fix this.
