Traveling from Nancy, France to Nice, France by car.

Question

I will be going to France next month for a family reunion and we are taking a car from Nancy to Nice. We will have only six days for travel between the two cities. Our reunion is in Nancy and our flight out is from Nice. Any suggestions of must see places to stop on the way? We are planning not to have any reservations because we just want to see as much as we can at our own pace. Or any suggestions for Nice or Nancy?

1. Stop in Beaune (visit the Hotel Dieu) and do some wine-tasting in the Burgundy region.

2. Lyon.

3. Spend 3 days in Provence: Orange, Avignon, Aix en Provence.

6 days is too short to fully appreciate all these places, especially since you have to include over 12 hours of highway driving time. This itinerary is just to get a sample of different aspects of France. You could decide to stop only in Lyon which is half way and spend more time in the Provence: so much to see and enjoy there.
