Traveling in Rome?

Is 6 nights 7 days (including 1 day for arriving and 1 day for departure) enough to visit Rome, or is it too much, or too little?

Thanks.

  1. I think it's just right. Rome is a huge city with so much to see. You could spend months there. But I think if you have a short amount of time to travel, it is best to stay in one city and get to know it better. I've been there several times. It's one of the great treasures of the world. Have fun!

  2. i think it is okay. by planning well you can see lot's of things. although i wouldn't plan too much, rome is so nice, that just walking around without plans is already worth it.

  3. Che bella Roma.

Your stay time is about right for a first glance at the city.  Take the hop-on hop-off tour buses.  For a few euro, you can ride all day and see all the major tourist attractions in and around the city.

Then, after making the first circuit, take the bus and get off at those places you want to spend some time.  The guides on such buses speak multiple languages; so they will point out things in English, Italian, and several other languages.

You should also plan on taking an all-day tour to Pompeii.  If you haven't been there for a few years, it's worth going back because it's much bigger and improved over what it was a decade ago.  If you haven't been there at all, you should find it fascinating and the trip down is full of views.

Wednesdays are the usual days for receiving blessings from the Pope.  So, depending on your background, you might want to avoid or go to the Vatican on that day.  Avoid it then if you want to avoid the crowds; go that day if you have a rosary to be blessed.

Shopping around the Spanish Steps is also worthwhile, but, due to the weak dollar, don't look for any bargains.  Everything in Rome is expensive...restaurant food is outrageously high.  Plan on $50 per person in a ristorante.

  4. It's the same if you go to Rome, Paris, Madrid or any other big town for a week. You will see everything important, for this you'll have enough time, but to really feel how the town lives, you should stay a bit longer....

Well, Rome is beautiful and I think you should enjoy it! But take care, some places are very expensive.... And in the bars, you will pay much more if you sit while drinking (up to 4 times more expensive than if you just stand)...

    Saluti di Roma!

  5. You can have a good time in Rome and not spend $50 a meal eating out.  Only the tourist traps charge that much money.  Get a good travel guide that shows you some good restaurants that won't break the bank.

A week is a good amount of time to visit.  You can do the highlights and have a really good time.  Some great places to see:  Vatican/St Peters, Roman Forum, Colosseum...Tivoli is not far from Rome.  You can spend a day there.  I could go on and on...:)

    Buon viaggio!

For a travel book I'd recommend the National Geographic Traveler: Rome.  It is one of the best ones in terms of things to do.

  6. Perfect. SO much to see and do, especially this time of year.
