Traveling in South America?

I've been to Argentina and loved it. Any other countries in SA you recommend that are even better than Argentina and why? Thanks.

all countries are beautiful in South America everyone has their own charm.  Colombia is very nice despite for the bad comments,  they have  beautiful beaches, climate, coffee, flowers, and people.   In Colombia,  I recommend San Andres Island, Cartagena, St. Marta other places in South America like: Isla Margarita in Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, Cuzco in Peru.  You have to decide what kind of vacation would you like, so that way you will chose the place (adventure, ecologic or just enjoy the beach).

For visit only. I suggest you go to Brazil, but beware of the thieves.

And don't forget to visit Bolivia. The prices are really cheap and you can visit the mountains, the city of La Paz; the carnival in Oruro-which is great and totally different from the brazilian one-the salting of Uyuni in the province of Potosi and Santa Cruz de la Sierra with Aqualand; the Equipetrol neighborhood; the Center Theathers.

It depends on what you want to do on your vacation. There are many nice places but some I would recommend as a group vacation or with knowing someone who  can guide you around and keep you out of trouble.

I really liked Peru. The city of Lima is a little dangerous but Cusco and Machu Picchu were well worth the trouble of getting there. I would like to return again and actually hike the Inca Trail from about 50 miles out. There are many ancient Inca ruins along the way and the people are very freindly.

Venezuela has some marvellous spots but now I would wait for a shift in power there.  I went to a small German village settled in the 1860's and they still speak German "Colonia Tovar". I also want to go to Salto Angel (Angel Falls) . It is a waterfall that is taller than the Empire State Building and leaves a rainbow in the valley below. It is reached by a dugout canoe ride from a national park.

I have been to Colombia (NOT Columbia) as the first poster writes. Along the coastal towns is actually pretty safe even by US standards. Cartagena and Santa Marta are pretty walled citadels from the 16th century and have the look of Spain. The Rosario Islands have a nature center with a dolphin encounter. The archipelligo of small islands off the coast have many interesting hotels and marvellous snorkel and diving opportunities. What ever the first person says about the country on how bad it is must remember... the reason for the selling of cocaine is because of all the AMERICANS that are stuffing it up their nose. If you want to improve things quit buying the product. Quit blaming them for your habit and loss of control over your life. The average person works hard for little in monetary reward but have a happy outlook on life which shows through in their customs ,traditions, song and dance. For you information, the average farmer does not want to grow cocaine and the local people detest what the trade has done to their country. When someone comes up to you and want's your land to grow coca and if you refuse, you are given a bullet in the brain to change your mind as your children get to watch then you wouldn't make such statements. I help fund an orphanage who have taken in such young victims from the countryside. Our problem has become their problem.

I am leaving in less than two weeks for Panama to the Las Perlas islands. This is a group of about 200 small islands with a laid back relaxed atmosphere with snorkeling, whale watching, deep sea fishing,sea turtle egg laying, pristine sandy beaches... and for me I will be flying an ultra-light airplane through the island chain. The rain forests of this region hold many different species of birds both from South America and from North America due to migration paths. The people here are also friendly and it si rather economical to visit.

I also have on my list to visit Chile and Brazil. I have friends in Rio de Janero and they have invited me down for Carnival. It is supposed to put Madi Gras to shame with context of size and excitement.

There are many places to go, just have to plot it out and work on it a  little at a time. Sounds like you have a great beginning by visiting Argentina. Good Luck with your future travels.

you need to go to columbia, and hang out with all the cocoa growers and see how cocaine is made and then sold! then you get to talk to the drug dealers who will kill anyone who steps in the way oif their getting these drugs into america! how is trhat for vacation?

You have to visit Colombia. I've been all over Central America and to several places in South America. Colombia is beautiful and has some of the friendless people you'll ever meet. Bogota (9 million people) is absolutely beatiful. Cartagena is also nice, although a bit touristy. Going back to Bogota this Friday fror 10 days. Go to a Yahoo web site for Bogota or Colombia and see for yourself all the wonderful places to visit. I stayed at Park Place 101 in Bogota last time for a week and when I left it was like leaving family. I have never had a hotel staff treat me so well. Friends that I had met that week met me at the airport to see me off. Truely amazing people. If you want particulars, email me.
