Question:

Traveling internationally for the first time?

I am traveling to Ireland this October to see my boyfriend, I've never flown farther than Atlanta, GA on my own...and I live in FL. I'm nervous about figuring out what to do for international flight. I'm flying with US Airways, from Orlando to Philadelphia with a 5 hour layover there. From Philly I am flying to Dublin. When do you go through customs? Would it be in Philly before I arrive IN dublin or would it be in Dublin? Has anyone been to the Dublin airport, is it easy to get around in? Any other information would be very helpful.

  1. Above answer is correct.

On the way home:  Assuming you're changing in Philly again, that's where you'll do customs.  Customs is at the first airport you get to in the country you're going to.  So Dublin-Phl-(Miami/Tampa/whatever) means customs in Philadelphia, not in Florida.

  2. You will go through customs in Dublin.  Typically, the flight attendant will have a customs delcaration form for you to fill out (where you have to declare any items as it relates to Ireland's customs/immigration policies).  Common items would be tobacco (cigarettes), liquor, and plants/food.

Dublin airport is fairly modern; you should have no navigation or language issues.  There shouldn't be an issue with car hire and/or taxicab issues.
