Traveling question?

i am planning to go to Trinidad on July 5th of this year. Should I be worried that I could be a target or robbery or kidnapping? I am a white Canadian, but I am going with a guy who is a native of Trinidad (although he was also born and raised in Canada). Also I am staying in a nice house, bartending at an upscale niteclub and being driven around in a mercedes. Am I paranoid or is this kinda scary?

  1. you should ALWAYS be careful when traveling at home or away from Canada.  I've had some clients of my company from Trinidad say that it isn't that nice a place away from the the tourist resorts, BUT I'm sure that you can point to areas in your town that aren't that nice too.

Just be cautious and don't go away too far from your hosts until you get a good lay of the land.  Also give the nearest Canadian Embassy/Consulate a shout to register that you are in country, where you are staying and your projected date of departure.  Its for a just in case.

  2. No idea. I live in Canada. Lol.

Check out the Travel section for Trinidad. Or go to www.lonelyplanet.com. It can give you a risk warning for any country. Also just google the safety an crime rates for Trinidad. I do it all the time for different places. You'll more then likely come across a blog that talks about what its like.

  3. maybe you should ask this in a trinidad section
