Traveling to Bogota, Columbia?

Does anyone know anything about this country? My mother wan'ts to go for medical reason's but it is her first time flying. She is having a hard time trying to find cheap airline tickets. We have tried all the airline websites and even travel agencies.

i haven't heard this as much lately, but you should be VERY careful there.  Americans (westerners) are often abducted for ransom.  this is not a joke.  you should check the US state departments warnings about the area before you travel.  know where your embassy is.

Be very careful there. Colombia is in the midst of a 42 year old civil war between drug cartels and federal forces. Kidnappings are fairly common and if your mother does not have a firm grasp on the spanish language (i.e. has a strong gringo accent) it may not be safe for her to travel alone.

That being said, i've been to colombia many times before ... beautiful people, beautiful country, and I plan to go again. But I always make sure to keep to my wits, even when blazing drunk at 3 o'clock in the morning. It helps to know someone there.
