hello. I'm believing y ou're meaning the 'they' being White europeans. The were searching their 'new' lands, they strode by foot and sailed by boat and were guided by 'impressionable' natives (indians). The natives were familiar with 'fights, they fought between their tribes so it wasn't unusual that the white british/french/spanish were fighting for the 'Gold' they were sure was there/here. Plus, the whites brought their Christian religion and flashed it to the natives. The natives were 'sure' a new belief would come 'from the sea' (atlantic to us white people. On both sides, we were searching for our 'truth'. that is why 'they did it'.
