  1. Yes it would be safe as along as you don't talk english on the streets and in dangerous zones of guatemala

it will be safe don't worry do not carry alot of jewerly when you are in the streets

  2. TWO women....are ok.  even one if you plan it....  fly into guatemala city (overnight flight arriving in the AM) and have a pre-plan to get out of that city right after you get through customs.  you probably would do alright there, but there is not mcuh to see there, and it is rough.

antigua is a huge tourist city, so is lago atitlan (panajachel).  you can be there without too many problems.  if you are worried, take a taxi (buy a ticket from the OFFICIAL kiosk at the airport) and go to the place that provides tourist shuttles to antigua.

better yet, there might be one at the airport actually that goes straight to antigua (google it and find out).  then you are "in like flynn".  antigua is kinda touristy, but really nice.  from there you can befriend others that are going in the same direction as you.  the lake, or any other place

i have seen women travel all over the place there

i traveled with a woman in guatemala and another in nicaragua (i am a guy) and it worked out great for these two women....and i had someone to pal around with down there too.  i just ran into them at a hostel or someplace else and we decided to travel together.  then we split after a few days.  never to see each other again....but it served its purpose.

don't miss chichicastengngo.....one thing i can say at any market and actually most places......pick pockets abound.  crimes of oportunity.  harmless or maybe they puch or hit you. don't flash your camera all the time, put any pack "front side" not back pack style (or don't take it with you on day trips)....and any day bag that you DO need that will hold little purchases, reading glasses, bottle of water, sunscreen and day stuff...put around your neck and across your body.

watch out for dark allys and the like in antigua on some outskirts of town.

all in all, it is safe becasue you will be in the tourist areas and traveling with another person..

as for honduras, copan ruinas is just across the boarder, and the bay islands are also across the boarder on the carribean side.  lots of tourist traffic to travel with....and because there are tourists on this route, there are crimes of opportunity.

nothing to be too alarmed about.  i was pick pocketed (some 30 dollars only) in solola' near lake atitlan guatemala, had a hat taken off my head in costa rica by a byciclist....and got a camera taken from me at a bus station in mexico city (i turned my back on it for a few moments)

    tom;-)
