Question:

Traveling to Europe...do I need a plug converter?

I'm planning a trip to Europe through my college, and this may seem like a silly question, but do I need to buy a converter or something to use on the outlets there? I need it for things like my computer, my phone charger (I have a worldwide plan), hairdryer, etc. Is there something I can buy that will fit regular and three prong plugs, and about how much would it run me?

Thanks for the help!

  1. Depending on the countries you are visiting, you will need a converter for the voltage and different plugs to fit in the outlet.

I suggest you buy a hair dryer that already has a dual voltage option - they usually run about 10.00 for a travel size.

You get get a complete kit at Walmart for around 10-15.00

  2. umm im over in bahrain right now and they use 220v the states use 115v so if u plug in something that doesnt have dual voltage it will blow w/e u just pluged in. So we have 2 use an adapter to plug int he wall and a power converter for certain items. ur laptop should be dual voltage, just check the power suplly on it and it shold say 100v-240v if it just says 115v then u need a converter. and im pretty sure most european countries have the higher voltage, but converters are fairly heavy about 10-15 lbs so i would just suggest buyin a w/e item u want 2 use like the hairdryer. converters run about $35-150 depending on the voltage. an adpater is only like $2. So u just gotta decide if u wanna carry a converter around with u bt like i said its heavy. lol good luck

  3. I have a set of the adaptor plugs that you can purchase in stores that sell travel accessories. In 4 trips to Europe, I only needed to use an adaptor once. In Europe, the current is 50 cycle instead of 60 cycle. Most hotels now have at least one outlet that is 60 cycle for tourists with hairdryers and such.

  4. wow!!!!!! that a good question i never thought about the plug ins over there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i dont know but i just wanted to let you know its not silly to ask
