Ok. I am going to France as a exchange student for one year and Igot the visa for three months but once there I have to get the "carte de séjour" which is a paper that will let me stay there for one year. Bu t the question is: I'm pretty sure that with the visa I got I can travel to all European countries but once it's over and I get my "carte de sejour": Can I continue traveling or I have to say in France the whole year???

  1. GO TO immigration.com for a better anwser

  2. The short stay visa is definitely not the same thing as a student visa. You apparently got a Schengen visa which allows you to travel to many (but not all) countries in Europe for 90 days.

This is not the same thing as a student visa and you need to correct this immediately by contacting the nearest French consulate. You will not be given a carte de sejour based on a Schengen visa.

  3. Yes,you can continue travelling...But if you want to stay in france then you can get information from http://www.stayresfrance.com. I hope it is useful for you.

  4. You definitely need to get a student visa, and you must have this well before you travel.  The 3 month Schengen visa is for tourists only and will not allow you to get the Carte de Sejour.  In fact, if you try to get this after staying 3 months, you may well be deported.

Get back to the French Consultate/Embassy as soon as possible and explain your situation.
