I have no idea where to start. Where can I get all the info I need on what documents I need, what the weather is like during certain times of the year, etc...? What should I wear? Would a sari be appropriate? Are there certain colors I should or shouldn't wear? It would help if a native could maybe email me and answer my questions or atleast somewhere where I can get answers and info for my questions? Any good places? Or any natives willing to help me?

  3. hi

well i am an indian and have travelled a lot.so you are in safe hands.you seem to be a girl.well i would recommend you to get your tour booked.you can wear a sari but even jeans will do in mumbai.don,t wear sikimpy clothes.well the minute you land on airport ,you will see men stating at you.don,t mind.we indians love fair girls.if you are in a booked tour, then they will take good care of you.if not, then stay away from locals, especially boys.don,t get anything from streets.get into a mall.go for rajasthan, northeast, andamans and then to mumbai.they are the best in the world.agra is good but boring for young.don,t go to goa, maharastra,m.p,or anywhere else.coz people will take you for a ride there.contact me anytime.first let me know where are you intersted for.i mean in which states.

  4. well - u can start by not calling us 'natives' sounds rural.  u can say indians.

    u need a visa.

weather varies from northern india to southern india and season to season (north india can be 0degrees Celcius cold in winter and 45 in summer - south india is more temprate with 20 degrees cold in winter and 40 in summer), but these are generalizations - u need to mention the place and the month to get a better picture.

dress code again depends on where u will be.  u dont have to wear a sari or a salwar - jeans, tops, pants, shirts, skirts, shorts are pretty acceptable in most places except very rural places or some religious places where too much skin should not be shown.  again - dont wear skimoy clothes in a non beach place.

  6. Well you need your Indian Visa which you need to get at the Indian embassy located in your country. I think a passport is obvious !

As for dressing. You don't need to wear a saree at all. Our's is a modern democracy and we don't care a d**n if people wear shorts and tank tops on the streets. But i would recommend you don't wear very skimpy clothes as an average Indian men tend to ogle at women dressed scantily. More so if they fair skinned. * sigh* So trousers/pants, skirts with a not so revealing top (not plunging neck lines) will do.

No we don't have any colour issues. Except if you are coming in the summer, wear clothes that don't make you sweat. If you are attending an Indian wedding, just don't wear a white or black.

As for weather info, you can look at the local but most circulated paper online for weather info. www.timesofindia.com, or www.ndtv.com or www.rediff.com

If you have any more questions just mail me at :aparna_harrypotter@yahoo.com

Must say whoever thumbed me down has to be a guy, bet he didn't like me saying "men tend to ogle at skin" LOL !!

An advise: Watch out for overtly friendly men. Be very cautious and take advise from some one you know in India or know of. I would feel safer with a woman than a man. But avoid giving too much info about your self over the net.
