My girlfriend and I want to visit Italy but only have 5 days. What is the best area or city to visit for short fun romantic getaway? We like excitement and beauty. Not interested in clubs or fancy resturants. Thanks for any input. Also recomendations on hotels would be appreciated.

  1. If you are based in the Veneto (Northern Italy) you can take in The Lakes, Verona and Venice all of which are stunning. Verona is a good central point to be based and a beautiful city in it's own right. Lake Garda is about 45 mins north-west and Venice is about 1.5 hrs east.

Further south the weather will be better. Rome and Florence are the obvious ones (see Rome and die!), or perhaps the Amalfi coast, though I would maybe save the seaside for a summer trip.

You can't really go wrong wherever you end up - Italy is such a beautiful country.....

  2. Venice is only romantic if you're a total cheeseball.  It's a good city to poke your head around, but it's very fake and touristy.  Verona is slightly more authentic, but the whole "Romeo and Juliet" thing is a total scam.  "Juliets tomb" is actually a horse's drinking trough!

I would suggest spending three days in Rome and two in Florence.  A night walk around Rome can be very romantic, and it's rich in history, but you'll have lots of things to do during the day.  Florence is very small (pop. 200,000 or so) but has amazing art galleries and churches.  These cities are further south than Venice and Verona, so it will also be warmer and less likely to rain.

  3. Definatly Venice !

It´s : romantic, beautiful, full of museums & gorgeous churches, not crowdy in November...

  4. Hi,

All Italy is beautiful and enjoyable.

But if you just have 5 days, I would go  in northern Italy and visit Firenze, the Lakes, Verona and Venice (or maybe only Firenze or Venice).

I, personnally, would advise you to elect Venice, moreover if you are looking for a romantic gateway.

For the hotels, you can have a look on this tool :

And for some images of Venise, this is a bilingual blog :
