Question:

Traveling to Jamaica?

I have never traveled out of the country before and I am not sure what to expect when going through customs at Philadelphia Airport. What exactly do we need to do? I do have a passport already. Do they just look at your passport and send you through or how does it usually work?

  1. Stop worrying you'll enjoy it loads!!! I was born in England and moved to Jamaica 7 years ago. Even though my parents are Jamaican sometimes I still can't understand some people! Its just like anywhere. Piece of advice Jamaica is a lovely place so enjoy! There are alot of people who will beg money from you dont feel obligated to give, unless you want to....Make sure you know the exchange rate at the moment its $135 jamaican dollars to one English pound and the US is $70.

Try to get out and about when you come don't stick in the hotel otherwise you'll never see the true beauty of the island.

Like anywhere be sensible... Oh I think on the plane they give you a piece of paper (immigration I think. Keep that safe) but most of all.... ENJOY! ENJOY! ENJOY!

  2. If money is no object, you can fly between the minor airports on the island on a small charter plane. There are only a couple of companies that provide this service and you need to make an appointment at least a day in advance. A flight across the entire island (from Negril to Port Antonio, for instance) runs about US$600.

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: All Americans traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

This requirement will be extended to sea travel (except closed loop cruises), including ferry service, by the summer of 2009. Until then, U.S. citizens traveling by sea must have government-issued photo identification and a document showing their U.S. citizenship (for example, a birth certificate or certificate of nationalization), or other WHTI compliant document such as a passport card for entry or re-entry to the U.S. Sea travelers should also check with their cruise line and countries of destination for any foreign entry requirements.

  3. buy your ticket get on your plane but customs mite check you dont freak out if you dont carry anything ilegal they will let you go, then you get to ja a officer will question you ask your reasons for being there and how long you answer truthfuly if your are a law abideing perosn wich i hope you are if not stay out,  and then you are on your way however prepare a ride before you get there to pick you up if not ask the airport for a good taxi servie dont trust just any taxy driver inless you know jam, but be prepared i find  most of the staff in kingston micheal manley airport to be jerks,
