  1. Not a problem. Laptops are allowed for tourists to Mexico without restrictions.

Here's the procedure when you get to the border: After you get your tourist visa, you come to the customs station. There will be a light that looks like a traffic light. You will be told to push the button. It will turn either red or green (totally random). Most often it is green and they will wave you through without opening your luggage. If you get the red light, they will ask you to step aside to a table where they will look through your luggage (or your car if you're driving). Usually, it is a fairly cursory inspection.  If you don't have anything illegal, you won't have any problem.

And laptops are neither illegal nor dutiable for tourists.

  2. I have done it couple of times, just have it in it's case laying amonst the luggage...no big deal.  few cars are checked, ans as the other person said, just so it does not lok like you are bringing things to sell.

  3. This website was pretty informative.

It seems that everything is ok as long as you dont bring in so much stuff that it looks like you want to sell stuff.

  4. You are allowed to bring into Mexico a personal laptop (and some other things), you do not have to pay taxes or anything.

On the way back, the people at the US border can sometimes be mean, if they want to they will make you turn on your computer and check for p****y.  If you have, I believe, more than 2 movies it is considered p****y and they will take your laptop from you. I´m not really sure about the number of movies.  Also, all of your programs should be legally bought.  But other than than, you can take your computer back.

I have traveled many times back and forth with my laptop.

Remember you cannot bring fire arms to Mexico, you will go straight to jail.
