MY HUSBAND AND I ARE MOVING TO MEXICO; HE'S AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SO WE'RE TRYING TO AVOID BORDER PATROLS AND/OR POLICE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. WE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA: IS IT SAFER TO TRAVEL TO TEXAS AND CROSS THROUGH EL PASO INTO CD? OR IS IT BETTER TO CROSS THROUGH TIJUANA AND TRAVEL THROUGH SONORA? I'VE HEARD THAT IN SONORA THERE'S LOTS OF DANGER (ROBBERIS, ETC). ANYBODY WHO KNOWS HOW THE ROUTES THROUGH TIJUANA, TECATE (BAJA CALIFORNIA) AND SONORA ARE PLEASE HELP!!!! I'M DESPERATE! :( ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED

  1. I read in a book of tourism that the main highway leading from El Paso/Ciudad Juarez was the safest for tourists travelling by car because it was maintained by the government.

    My husband is from Guanajuato,Mexico,

outside of Alto el Paseo , in a very rural and isolated area.

He described to me the biggest danger people faced there who were driving was roadblocks put up by thieves to ambush people. For this reason I would take the trouble to drive on good roads through Texas to the El Paso border to cross and use the most fortified highway available.

You didn't mention to which State you're headed.

Don't be surprised if your husband has already decided the route. Mexican men have alot of Indian characteristics, and one of them is keeping their thoughts to themselves, also in my experience they have been extremely resourceful. You don't need to worry so much

Even if he is arrested by the ICE. I can relate to your anxiety because I went through that.

They held him for 1 month because I did'nt have the bail money.( $3,000) If it happens just hang on and wait.

Because we were married they released him and we started the process of filing the paperwork: Petition for Alien Relative. It took us 6 years until he was finally approved. I'm only informing you so you can feel better prepared.

The ICE beauracracy probably hasn't improved very much since then.

    Be patient.

Don't let those turkeys get you down.

    Take care and Good Luck!

  2. if you try to go to mexico by going to texas there are alot of check points its better to go to tijuana because the border patrol at the us / mex  border are more worrid about whats try to come in from mex  to the us , that what s coming from us entering mex but bad idea trying to drive from ca to texas much easy and faster but more border patrol there is a check piont on the 8 i think and many more i cant remember iam going to have to go to cuidad juarez with my hubby so we will go from ca to tj to juarez its very dangerious in cuidad juarez why are you trying to go to live in mexico?

  3. WHERE in Mexico are you going?  Cross wherever is most convenient to your destination.  Then just get out of that border area rapidly...and on your way to your destination.  There is NO point in driving all the way across Sonora.  do as much driving as possible in the U.S. on good roads.  Get a Guia Roji, Mexican road map at one of the large books stores.  YOU need to be sure to have your photo I.D. and birth certificate and /or passport with you...so you can return to U.S. when you like.  After summer 2009, you will need a passport to do this....best to get one now, but if you don't, you can get one at the American embassy in Mexico city or an American consulate in Mexico. "G" is incorrect...even if you are legally married, your husband has no "status" in the U.S.  He would have to apply to immigrate through the American embassy.  This application is NOT easy and will likely take at least 2 to 3 years to process...then you do not know if he will be accepted.  You could go to American embassy website below to read about application, so you can work on this later if desired.  Be ABSOLUTELY sure that if you have a child with him while residing in Mexico, that you REGISTER the birth at the American Embassy in Mexico City...so the child will be an AMERICAN citizen....this is terribly important.   The child would have dual citizenship. See 2nd site.  Also, if YOU go to Mexico and enter with just a 6 month tourist visa, you must go back to the border, stay out of Mexico at least a day and get another tourist card every 6 months.   YOU are not allowed to "move' to Mexico without n FM3 visa...which requires proof of sufficient income from the U.S. every month to support yourself.  You can go to the nearest Mexican Immigration office after you are settled and ask about applying...since you are married to  a Mexican citizen, you will be able to get an FM 3 easier...or even an FM2...the visa that is closer to citizenship. Then after a couple of years, you could apply for citizenship if desired.  An "INM" office in Mexico is the place to go for this  when you are ready.   The American embassysite has lots of good info for you, so save the site and search around on it when you have time...esp. under the "citizens" services section.  If you are not legally married, but get married in Mexico...be sure to read about marriage to a Mexican citizen on the embassy website.  This site can be very helpful to you.  i hope things work out well for you.

  4. If you are legally married and were in the U.S.A he has some sort of status.

To answer your question--straight  from north of San Diego right into T.J.  If you go east from San Diego toward Texas you will be stopped once and you husband will be detained and and deported.

Your story is "Fishy" You will be undocumented and not permitted  to work in Mexico and he wont be making a lot of money(All the love in the world wont pay the rent).

Not a good idea to leave yet my dear, get it together.

  5. Tijuana border is the best option, i understand u husband is an inmigrant in US right? but what about Mexico??? u has double nacionality so u won´t be problems to work in Mexico, by the other hand freeways in Mexico are safe, really, only take care do not stop in any isolated area, cos u`ll probably had problems, just drive in confidence, now if u want to more safetly jus arrive to any mexican border go to the next airport and take a plane to your place, this is the safest way like driving 4 hours or days, good luck

  6. I guess so.

  7. I can't see a problem at the border crossings if he just wants to repatriate to Mexico.. If he has criminal charges against him, that's another matter. San Ysidro would be the best.
