Traveling to New Zeland or American Samoa?

Question

Any Samoan people know when is the best time (cheapest) to travel from California to American Samoa? I'm Chicana (mexican/american) and my husband is Samoan, and I want to travel to his village so I can get to know some of his family in Samoa. Also, I've been wanting to maybe go to New Zealand, but I don't know what's out there..... does anybody know what the best time would be to go out there and where to?

I can't really help you with the info on Samoa but I am from New Zealand.

Just a random fact for you - there are actually MORE Samoans in NZ than there are in Samoa!

It would be best to go to New Zealand between November - April, which are our warmer months.

Some of the places I suggest seeing:

Bay of Islands - north of Auckland, great little towns and beaches in summer

Rotorua - the cultural capital of NZ, where you can learn a lot about the Maoris

Wellington - very arty city, capital city of NZ - visit parialment and 'te papa' (NZs museum)

Abel Tasman National park - at the top of the south island, always sunny and tropical, go for walks and kayaking

Franz josef glacier - go ice climbing!!! (from 2.5 hours to full day to helicoptor tours)

Queenstown - adreniline capital of the world, 4 bungee jumps (one of which is the 2nd biggest in the world), there is SO much to do here I suggest at least 4 nights.

Christchurch - quaint city with lovely gardens and old architecture

Kaikoura - to go whale watching and dolphin swimming

Hamner springs - in the middle of the south island - beautiful surroundings, very relaxing place to be.
