I will be visiting Pondicherry for 2 days (Sat and Sun). Please suggest me the best places to visit like Church, Monuments, Beach & little shopping. I want a hotel near to the beach (cheap and best) and which is the best local transport? Can we get bikes for rent? How much do they charge for a taxi? Please help me. Many thanks in advance.

  1. Check out the tourism sites for pondicherry. They will give you all the information.

    Use google search.

  2. good idea and it is also a best visiting place in india

  3. pondicherry is quite affordable... there are numerous good hotels near beach (within 1km)... you can find them in any guidebooks... i dont think bikes are for rent... (if they are, maybe hard to find!)... autos are common for transport... taxis are not that common... probably you can hire bicycles... the place is quite covered by a bicycle... autos need bargaining often!... the ashram there has guest houses... if you can get a room, it'd be good... search web for info!

  4. you can visit the ashram and the manakula vinayagar temple which are nearby... and also the beach all these places you can walk....

auroville is a must to visit...

it will be hot out there so try to go out in the evenings...

since your going on weekends try the sunday market...

    Bon voyage

  5. Heya Dude! Economic Residence approx 15 mins walk from beach inside city centre would be "Bala Guest House " at Vellalar Street! 500 bucks for AC room with Double bed! Cheap Enough! U can booze also in the rooms! The Best Alternate would be The Youth Hostel! On the shore literally with AC rooms @ 150 per day! They dont get cheaper than this!

Ask for PTDC office on beach road in Pondy! its beside the Ashram Press! They conduct daily tours for 150 per head! They pick up at 1000 and drop by 1800 hrs covering all the places in and around Pondy including Auroville! Best package tour covering everything and economic cost!

I would best recommend you NOT to go now...coz its 32 degrees now and climbing! Still ya wanna go...buy some SUN BLOCK Creams and carry some shades with non-heavy clothes!

Bikes for rent are available...ask for Karnataka Bank on Mission Street. Right opposite is a garage next to the temple. Bikes are available @ Rs 500 to 1000 per day! Also try the garage next to Calve (pronounced Calvia) College on the same road!

Hope this helps! By the way, I am a pondicherrian in Bangalore! Have a nice trip!
