  1. Check out the Pork Store Cafe (http://www.yelp.com/biz/pork-store-cafe-...  They have two locations, one in Haight-Ashbury and another on Valencia in the Mission.  It's a bit of a dive, but you'll get your fill of greasy spoon food at rock-bottom prices.

  2. Ugh, the Pork Store will kill you.  Any of the Crepe places have good breakfasts like Squat N Gobble (they are all around SF).  On Lower Haight, The Grind cafe has a great breakfast menu.  All You Knead in Upper Haight is okay (some really like it, others don't).  Crepes on Cole in Cole Valley is reliable.  These are very localized suggestions.  Feel free to message me if you have information about where you are staying or what foods you like to eat, etc.

  3. You don't mention where in the city you are staying.

If you need to be near the FiDi/Union Square area, go for Dottie's True Blue Cafe in the Tenderloin.  You will wait in line in a grungy neighborhood even on a weekday, but it is so very worth it.  My favorite treat is the eggs with a savory sweet potato tart, but they also have delicious items like lemon-ginger blueberry pancakes, and the best homemade coffeecakes and muffins in the city.

If you can go west a little further, I would recommend Kate's Kitchen in the upper Haight.  It's another place that's a bit of a dive in location and decor, but has really terrific and very creative breakfast food.   Expect lines on the weekends unless you get there very early.

In both places, huge breakfasts are less than $10, as long as you don't go overboard on sides and baked goods.  But if you don't have the time for either place and you are downtown, just pop into any Specialty Bakery.  For less than $2, one of their oatmeal zucchini muffins is enough to hold me till lunchtime - they're huge, and fresh baked yummy.

  4. I second the vote for Dottie's True Blue Cafe in the tenderloin!!  It's always worth the wait!!  Very tasty.  (522 Jones Street, no website).

Another option is "Mama's on Washington" in North Beach...they have many different kinds of french toast, very delish.

Also, "Zazie" in Cole Valley, they have amazing gingerbread pancakes!  Lots of other choices too.

  5. the best is fleur dy leys  on sutter
