I love Cuba, it's such a warm country and they people are nice. I always stay in Varadero Cuba which I consider very save, I am a 22 year old woman who is thinking of going to Santiago de Cuba, I want to party, see places and learn about Santiago de Cuba, can someone give a general idea of how it is over there? What is there to do? How safe is it?

  1. In Santiago there are several things to see. We have the cathedral, the Sanctuary of Our Lady de la caridad del cobre, saint patron of Cuba, Santa Ifigenia cemetery

  2. Traveling to Santiago? Santiago is quite a distance from Varadero

I guess around 800 km, How are you traveling by Viazul bus, by plane,

private taxi ? I did it once by plane. If you want to party and see places

Havana is a better option than Santiago...and closer ( +/- 130 km) normally two hours by bus or taxi. Santiago is a typical Eastern town, the second biggest in the country. You can visit the museum of the Revolution, Santiago is a nice city but nothing compared to Havana. I would prefer the smaller Trinidad city. Safety depends much

on your own behavior, don't walk alone at night on the streets, leave your cash and jewels, camera etc in your hotel. Take the usual precautions....and have a great time.

  3. Well, basically you can visit the cathedral, the Sanctuary of Our Lady de la Caridad del Cobre, our saint patron.

At the times of the Independence war, the image of la Caridad del Cobre was, together with the flag, the shield, and the anthem, a symbol of the Cuban nation. It still is, despite the fact that the comunist government does not display it

I see, by the mention that somebody makes about the museum of revolution , that that person is a sympathizer of the government

  4. As Havanalover mentioned about your safety...use common sense and street smarts, naturally. Even though Cuba is safe, you would always want to be alert...people are people everywhere.

You can use Viazul bus system to travel with...there are schedules times and listed fares as well...or hire a taxi.

  5. Basically, in all Oriente, the most common means of distraction is to drink rum. There is very little else to do

Santiago de Cuba is a very hot place. It was built on hills and you can notice this.

The recommendation I can give you is to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady , the Virgin de la Caridad del Cobre, one of the symbols of the Cuban nation
