  1. I live in Florida, and would suggest, by all means visiting New Orleans.

If your near Miami or Fort Myers, take the Key West Express, the 150ft. Jet Propulsion Catamaran for a one day trip to Key West. It saves a long drive.

Don't leave the U.S. without seeing both.

(see Atlanta after you move here)

  2. I'm 1/2 Portuguese (and 1/2 Ukrainian!)... Anyway, I moved to the Southeast 7 years ago from Las Vegas and I was raised in the San Francisco area. If you really want to experience the "flavor" of the Southeast, Florida doesn't really do that- unless you want to go for the beaches. I would suggest places like Savannah, Georgia- South Carolina- Nashville, Tennessee and yes, New Orleans. I now live 20 miles north of Nashville and it is an amazing city with so much to see and do- you could easily spend a week or two and not have enough time. There are lots of civil war mansions and plantations to tour as well as President Andrew Jackson's home, The Hermitage. There are beautiful parks to hike in and of course downtown is so much fun with all the honky tonks and live music playing 24 hours a day! The Grand Ole Opry is here, the Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music hall of Fame, great food (Barbecue), interesting neighborhoods, 2 huge lakes, and more.

Savannah, GA is really beautiful and has fantastic architecture. It is reported to be the most haunted city in America and there are ghost tours every day! Thre is also a lot to do there including boats that take you out to see the dolphins.
