Question:

Traveling to Spain as a vegan?

In about a week, I will be traveling to Spain with my Spanish class on an NETC trip. The cities we will be visiting include Marid, Salamanca, San Sebastian and Barcelona. I've been to happycow.net and printed off the restaurants and health food stores, but I have a feeling that most of the restaurants we will be visiting have already been planned out... So, does anyone have any tips for me? I've heard it's practically impossible to get a vegan meal in a regular restaurant, but I do not want to make too much of a fuss or be a hassle for the people I'm traveling with.

  1. If you're willing to shop in local stores, you should be able to buy food you can eat. But in restaurants almost everything has meat or seafood in it, including salads and vegetables. So you're going to be on your own.

  2. Well, it might be tough to get a vegan meal in the restaurants, so maybe bring some of your own food (packaged and canned) just in case. I'm assuming that the trip is not going to be that long, so only eating packaged food for a week or so won't hurt (trust me , I've done this before. Just don't bring any produce because customs won't let you bring it in to the country. I brought lots of oatmeal, granola bars, protein bars, shelf stable soy milk or almond milk, soups, and pasta).
