  1. First of all have you gotten the microchip? it needs to be the EU standard chip, which is different from the one in the US. Also you need to have a current rabies Vaccination, after the microchip, and prior to 6 mos of travel, you will need a rabies booster prior to the flight if you don't get the shot within the year.  All shots up to date, and a well certificate for travel. I am not sure about spain, but some countries require you to contact the incoming port if you are traveling from a country that has rabies, ex US. I would check online for prices because every airline is different on travel spec. You will definitely need a kennel for the dog, airline approved. Check any pet store, they will know exactly what to show you.

Also contact a USDA vet in your state, they will have forms that you need and they will need to sign off when you have them filled out by a CERTIFIED vetrinarian.

I would also contact the Spain vetrinarianss, to find out Quarantine laws, there may be an at home quarantine, or perhaps a facility, if so you will need a reservation.

When you contact the airlines, and you will need to do this on the phone, make sure you have the following or you will run around in circles...

    1 exact dimensions of kennel,

2 weight of kennel with pet inside.

    3 exact dates of travel

( also for every seperate airline you use, there will be a fee, and different specs, so call them all.

Knowing this, some airlines don't allow pet cargo travel in winter, too cold, some won't allow cargo travel in summer on long trips because of extended time on tarmac. at any time during the trip if the weather goes above or below any temp they can cancel pet travel, and there you will be wherever you are.

Moving with pets is not fun or easy. I would check out a USDA vetrinarian site, There is one from every state, they will have all the current info and the appropriate health certificate that you will need for travel.

All in all it is not an easy process and you have to plan AT LEAST 1 year in advance if you want to be granted entrance to the country.

Good luck and I hope you have less setbacks than I always seem to encounter.

Last trip. $1000.00 airfare alone, plus all the other obvious costs. That was to Japan, expect around 800.00 to spain I would assume

  2. a trip like that would really stress your pet out.  although you'd appreciate having your pet with you i'm not sure your pet would appreciate the trip.

also, airlines aren't required to report how many pets are lost on their airlines so no one really knows how safe it is.  :(

do your pet a favor and try to find a friend to keep it while you're gone.

  3. yes you would have to get it a cage.  i would cost arounf 100-150 dollars to bring your pet, but you should check with the airline you going.
