I am 19 years old, plan to go to Tokyo by myself. I know little bit of Japanese, not entirely fluent. It would be my first time going to Japan.

  1. it will be an adventure that will last a lifetime

  2. During my first trip to Japan with a friend who couldn't even speak a word of Japanese, we were able to get through one whole month. If you venture into the outskirts, you may not be able to get an english speaking person. So what we did was bring a small pocket dictionary. It may seem silly but it helped us a whole lot. I was only able to manage simple phrases such as thank you, excuse me, welcome, how are you etc and i would say we did rather well. In Tokyo, you may find more people speaking English and Japanese people are a very helpful bunch. You will be ok. Most important, learn the names of food or you won't know what you are eating. Happy travelling!

  3. Tokyo is filled with English and with staff who can speak some English. It's a huge tourist destination. You'll be fine.
