Question:

Traveling to italy. Clothing suggestions?

I am an 18 year old male traveling to Italy with my family next month. I don't want to stick out by wearing something that screams "American" or "Tourist". I normally wear jeans and solid color button down shirts with graphic tees underneath. I've heard a few fashion suggestions like not to wear graphic tees, or things with words on them, and not to wear shorts. Any other advice for how I can blend in?

  1. We were just there in Oct. and I am a jeans and t-shirt  kinda girl and I was just fine.  My only suggestion is to pack light, and mix and match...solid colors are fine, so are patterns- clothing is universal now a days, as long as it's neat and respectful.  If you're planning on going to churches, make sure you have sleeves!  Comfortable shoes are a must!  We even had light weight parkas that served to be invaluble.  great for cool weather or rain!!

  2. I don't think anyone really objects to graphic tees, but grown men in Italy never wear shorts.  Italian men wear jeans and tees, but they tend to be a little more fitted than the American version of the same combination.  As others have suggested, your trip will be more enjoyable if you don't bring a lot of clothes to haul around.
